Common localities of the Reticulated Python.
This locality is from the island bearing the same name found off the south western coast of Sulawesi. Due to close proximity with the island of Sulawesi, often markings are similar. However this locality is famed for its overall golden coloration. This locality is also often of smaller dimensions, similar to those of the “Bali” locality.
Sulawesi animals can be broken down into 5 distinguishable groups, that i am aware of and have noted. North, east, southeast, southwest and west.
Northern animals are from above Palu and around the "arm". Eastern animals are from east of the Bada valley right out to the eastern coast of that "arm". Southeast animals are from Towuti lake downwards. South west animals are from Rantepao downwards.
These groups contain the various localities that you will have heard of, eg Makasar, Palopo etc.
This leads to problems with identification as although you may buy a “Sulawesi” locality it may be from one of the other trade mark localities but doesn't quite fit the stereotype for that location.
Typically this locality name is collected from “western” Sulawesian area between Rantepao in the south, Palu in the north, the Bada valley in the east and the sea on the west.
Key identification features include a brighter yellow coloration and, typically, “doughnut” shapes along the neck.
